Did you know that right now in Pennsylvania it is still legal to fire, deny housing or refuse service at a public business to someone just because they are gay or transgender? In fact, Pennsylvania is the only state in the Northeast to deny these basic protections to non-public sector employees – harming hardworking Pennsylvania families and hurting our state’s economic growth and businesses’ ability to attract top talent.
Thankfully, all this will change if state lawmakers pass the Pennsylvania Fairness Act to update our laws and protect all Pennsylvanians from discrimination, including on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
I've joined Pennsylvania Competes, a new public education campaign committed to updating Pennsylvania law to protect hardworking gay and transgender people from discrimination. Now I’m asking you to take a stand against discrimination, too.
If you believe that all Pennsylvanians are created equal and are endowed with certain inalienable rights including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, join me in signing Pennsylvania Competes’ petition today, and together we will be supporting a more robust economy, too.
